It’s Honey Month!

We love HONEY!
This one little ingredient can do many big things. We enjoy honey because its sweet, natural – even medicinal, and its healthy too. Honey has vitamins and minerals, even antioxidants. The busy bees in a hive will produce about 65 pounds of extra honey a year, so we get to enjoy this sweet bounty!

A natural sweetener, energy booster (your muscles love this kind of carb fuel!), and cough suppressant, honey comes in several forms. While liquid may be the most popular out of the jar or for baking, give these other varieties a try:

Comb Honey – the comb is edible!

Cut Comb Honey – part comb, part liquid honey

Crystallized Honey – when some glucose crystalizes through natural processes

Whipped Honey – spreadable goodness you’ll never want to stop eating

It doesn’t matter if the container is glass or plastic, or if the honey is purchased at the grocery store or farmers’ market. If the ingredient label says “pure honey,” nothing was added from bee to hive to bottle.

While we love it to eat, don’t forget that the makers of honey have a role much more important and vital to our many nutritious food products. Bees pollinate a wide range of crops, including almonds, apples, avocados, cucumbers, melons, pears, and many more. Protecting farmland protects bees!
